Think-Pair-Share
This strategy is great for checking for understanding after direct instruction, or providing preliminary framework for a class discussion.
Think-Pair-Share involves posing a question or topic to students. Students, are instructed to reflect on the topic or question individually for about thirty seconds to formulate a position. After this, students should turn to a nearby partner (shoulder or desk buddies work well for this) and share the opinion they have formulated. After pairs have shared with each other, students can then share and discuss their views/opinions with larger groups, or as a class.
