Differentiated Instruction in the Alberta Social Studies Curriculum
One of the struggles faced by Social Studies teachers around the world is overcoming the misconception that social studies is a 'boring' subject. Much of this stems from very limited instructional strategies used by the teachers of the past, as well as an overemphasis on rote memorization rather than comprehension of broader concepts. One of the best ways to overcome this is to create engaging lessons the make use of a variety of instructional strategies and non-traditional assessments that provide students and opportunity to express understanding in a creative way.
This site looks to provide a variety of these different strategies and activities as a reference for those looking to increase the level of student engagement in their classroom, as well as touching on different types of intelligence and learning styles.

- Universal Strategies - These consist of different activities that are not subject or topic specific, but rather can be applied as needed in the classroom.
- Subject Specific Strategies - These strategies are subject and topic specific and are sorted by both Grade Level and Related Issue.
