Reasonable Accommodation Debate
This is a great activity to help students better understand the concept of reasonable accommodation, as well as appreciate the complexities of decisions regarding the question: what is reasonable?
This can effectively be accomplished in one of two ways:

This can effectively be accomplished in one of two ways:
- The first way involves giving students the attached worksheet and allowing them to work through the cases individually or in pairs, determining whether what is being described should be allowed on the basis of reasonable accommodation. After students have completed the worksheet, pick a few case studies that there seemed to be a lack of consensus on and have students vote with their feet on the particular case study. Encourage students to try to defend their position on the issue.
- The second way a reasonable accommodation debate can be accomplished involves a 'pitch it' or modified four corners activity. Break the class into groups and assign each group a particular case study. Each group is responsible for summarizing their case study on a poster, as well as explaining the potential loyalties in conflict. Lastly, each groups is tasked with determining whether the concept of 'reasonable accommodation' should apply to their case study. Encourage students who disagree with their groups consensus to ask them questions and try to have them justify their position.
