Concept Attainment
Concept attainment involves having students try to identify or sort examples as broader concepts. It is excellent for reinforcement of concepts, or previewing concepts before teaching them.
Concept attainment involves creating examples of specific concepts (for example; waving a flag as an example of patriotism, or Hitlers Germany as an example of ultra-nationalism). Students will either verbally (after being shown on a whiteboard/smart board) or physically (utilizing printed sheets of paper) categorize the different examples. If this activity is being used as previewing, then students could attempt to identify the concepts that the examples share, or perhaps predict shared concepts the examples represent.
