Climate Change Game
This game is a fun way for students to appreciate the benefits of internationalism, particularly when facing a global crisis. Advanced warning however: the game is rigged against the lower altitude countries.
Game setup: Each player chooses a country. Tokens should be placed at each dot on the map – these represent population. A token should also be placed below the one on the board to represent sea level rise. Each player starts with $5000.
How to play: In this game, a ‘round’ consists of the time it takes for every player to complete their turn. At the start of each round, a dice is rolled. The number showing on the dice is the number of feet the water level will rise if no action is taken that turn. Each player will take one event card on their turn. After taking the event card, players will choose which option they feel suits them best. Once every player has taken their turn, calculate the total amount of sea-level rise, move the sea level marker up the board, and remove the appropriate amount of population from the various countries.
Once a player has no more people in their country, they are eliminated from the game. The game ends when every country is eliminated from the game, or, when every card has been drawn.
